IDOS OPINION POLLS
When Suriname joined the ranks of democracy again in the beginning of the 1990’s, IDOS decided to conduct opinion polls in Suriname. Over the years IDOS polls have become one of the permanent operational constituents of the democracy in Suriname. We from IDOS dare say that “The history of opinion polls in Suriname goes hand in hand with that of IDOS.”
Since 1991 IDOS conducts at least two opinion polls per year. These polls not only measures support for political parties but also public opinion on a wide range of social and political issues and are published in all local newspapers and broadcast media. They are the subject of much discussion by the public, journalists and politicians.
In election years the frequency is increased to twice a month and even to once per week in the election month itself.
The polls conducted and financed by IDOS are done as courtesy to the people of Suriname. The place the IDOS polls have established in and abroad Suriname, make it hard for IDOS to stop this service.
IDOS polls are not only appreciated locally, but also in Holland and Curacao where they are published by the media.
Results of IDOS polls are nowadays also referred too by Multi Lateral Institution such as the IMF, World bank, IDB, OAS and The Economist Intelligence Unit, when assessing Suriname.
